History

Historically Ankober has name and fame as center of Ethiopian Kingdom since Emperor Yukuno Amlak moved the center of his empire from the north to areas around Ankober in the 13th century. Ever since Ankober area has been cultivated and the population has increased. By the 19th century, as Emperor Menelik II moved out of the area he left behind a depleted and degraded terrain, so that today Ankober is one of the most backward district of Ethiopia that needs the attention of organizations and Ankobereans living at home and elsewhere abroad.

ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS

Woreda Development Association (AWDA) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization committed to mobilize and assist friends, residents and organizations interested to contribute to development efforts of the people of ancient Ankober.
